500 gms small fish (like anchovies, baby sword fish, etc)
1/2 fresh coconut, grated
1 big onion, sliced fine
2-3 green chillies, chopped fine
1/2″ ginger, chopped fine
12-15 curry leaves
1 tsp tumeric powder
Juice of one lime
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp coconut oil
Salt to taste
1/4 glass of water
Optional – 2 pieces of kokum / a few slices of fresh raw mango
Clean and salt the fish and set aside for about 20 minutes.
Wash well and marinate in lemon juice and tumeric powder.
Mix the coconut, onion, chillies, ginger and curry leaves and crush together with a little salt.
Heat the coconut oil and splutter the mustard seeds in it.
Add in the coconut mix and then the fish and stir lightly.
Also add the kokum / raw mango if using.
Add the water and simmer under cover.
The fish will be done in about 8 minutes.
