Drumstick Dal

Drumstick Mix DalIngredients
1/2 cup tuvar dal (split pigeon peas)
1/2 cup moong dal (split red lentils)
1/2 cup masoor dal (split green gram)
1 tbsp urad dal (split black gram)
250 gms drumsticks, peeled and cut into 3″-4″ pieces
A few drumstick leaves, broken off the stem
2 green chillies, slit vertically
2 green chillies, chopped
6 garlic cloves
1 onion
1 tomato
6-8 curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
A pinch of sugar
Coriander leaves to Garnish
Salt to taste
Oil as required
Wash the dals and pressure cook with 2 slit green chillies and sufficient water for 2 whistles.
Turn off heat but keep lid on.
In a pan heat some oil and temper with mustard seeds,  cumin seeds, curry leaves,  chopped chilli and garlic.
When the seeds start crackling and the garlic starts browning,  add the onion.
Saute till just browning at the sides and add the tumeric powder and tomatoes.
Sauté till the tomatoes are soft.
Open the cooker and add the drumsticks, drumstick leaves, fried onion mix, asafoetida powder, salt and sugar.
Close and cook for one more whistle.
Release the presure and open the lid.
Sprinkle the coriander and simmer for a minute or two.
Serve hot with steamed rice.
